Tell us what your business does:

Software development. We have created a piece of software to help small companies manage their business easier by keeping track of their customers, creating quotes, and managing jobs and invoices.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

Speaking to friends and family who run their own businesses, and seeing the pain they go through using Microsoft Word and Excel to create their quotes and invoices.

How did you know there was a market for it?

Being a software developer, I thought that I would be able to create a system that would be easy to use and allow people to run their businesses in a more efficient way.

What were you doing before starting up?

I was working for a software development company, building databases and websites.

Have you always wanted to run your own business?

Yes, I have always dreamed of running my own company, since I was at school – but only recently I decided it was now or never time, so I went for it.

How did you raise the money?

I had saved some money from my previous job, but I spent most of my spare time working on the project so the costs were quite low.

Describe your business model and how you make money

People sign up for the software online and pay monthly to use it.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

Finding the time to work on the project and convincing myself that it was all going to be worth it. There have been times when I have thought about giving up, but I love what I do and really enjoy working for myself.

What was your first big breakthrough?

When my first customer signed up and started using my software. Now their company runs using it, and it makes me proud that I created something that is making their life easier.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Just go for it; if you don't then you will look back and always wonder what could have been. You will only fail if you stop trying!

Where do you want to be in five years' time?

Hopefully having grown the business and my customer base so that I can be working on other products.
