London-based event booking app secures $1.7m seed investment

YPlan launches with backing from Wellington Partners and Octopus Investments

A new app, branded as the world’s first mobile-only event booking app has launched today, following a $1.7m seed investment round.

Founded by Viktoras Jucikas and Rytis Vitkauskas, YPlan enables users to book last-minute London events “in two taps” at discounted rates.

The free app, which is available exclusively on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch impressed investors including venture capital firms Octopus Investments and Wellington Partners.

A series of angel investors and advisers from the technology, design, music and entertainment sectors, including co-founder of lastminute.com Brent Hoberman and Andy Phillips of booking.com also contributed to the seed funding. Daniel Waterhouse, general partner at Wellington Partners is confident that YPlan will be met with enthusiasm from its users. He said: “We’ve seen a huge shift to mobile commerce in the last couple of years as consumers carry out more of their day to day living using their smartphones with apps like Spotify and Hailo. “With YPlan, this here-and-now convenience extends to going out. In two taps, one can have an amazing night out booked, something, which in the pre YPlan era was a near-impossible task. “We’re thrilled to be backing Rytis, Viktoras and the rest of this incredible team.”
