Established in 1982, LBA is one of the UK’s leading angel networks and is part of the Angel Capital Group as well as syndicate partner of the £100m Angel CoFund and £25m London Co-Investment Fund.
LBA connects fast-growth small and medium companies with angel investors and, since 2000, has helped over 200 companies raise a total of £50m. It invests between £100,000 and £1m equity finance in UK-based businesses that are eligible for the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) or Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS). While it considers most sectors for funding, it has a particular focus on web, mobile, software, medtech and clean tech but doesn’t invest in property, film or events businesses. Investee companies must have proof of concept, market validation and an innovative and scalable business model.
Size of fund:
Marking its first co-investment through its partnership with the London Co-Investment Fund, in February 2015 LBA invested £200,000 in urinal game start-up Captive Media as part of a £617,000 funding round. A 2014 Startups Awards finalist, Captive Media uses urinal feature games to engage men in advertising campaigns and has products in over 50 venues across 12 countries including the US, Spain and Russia. LBA CEO Anthony Clarke said the fund participated as Captive had proved its “ability to scale”.
