London to host tech funding event

Twenty new technology companies will pitch to over 120 venture capitalists at an upcoming funding showcase in London.

The SETsquared Partnership Investors’ Showcase aims to support and encourage high-tech, high growth-potential companies and their entrepreneurs and quality university spin-outs by bringing them together with a select group of venture capitalists, high net worth individuals and sophisticated investors.

The Partnership has already helped new external ventures to raise more than £25m in early-stage funding for young businesses and has raised over £45m of follow-on funding for university spin-outs.

“UK university spin-out companies and their business incubators are proving to be highly successful. In the past three years alone, 25 quality spin out companies have floated on the stock market at a value of £1.5 billion,” said Dr Neil Bradshaw, chair of the SETsquared Partnership.

“University spin-outs have proven to be attractive investments for venture capitalists with 61% of university spin-out companies formed during 2005 funded through external investment finance.”

Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Minister of Science and Innovation, HM Government, and Mr Francis A.W. Carpenter, Chief Executive of the European Investment Fund will be the keynote speakers at the event, which takes place on 16 October at One Great George Street, London at 8am.
