Prototyping tool Marvel clinches £4m Series A from BGF

Prototyping and design platform will use finance to build sales and customer success teams and expand into new markets

Marvel, the design and prototyping platform, has closed a £4m Series A funding round led by BGF Ventures, with participation from Index Ventures, Connect Ventures, Inreach Ventures, Andy McLoughlin and Richard Fearn.

Started in 2013 by Murat Mutlu, Brendan Moore and Jonathan Siao, Marvel can be used by anyone from freelancers to small businesses and Fortune 500 companies to create prototype website and app designs.

More than one million users are currently registered on the platform, which claims to see around 35,000 new users signing up every month. Last month, Marvel acquired rival Taiwanese prototyping start-up POP to expand its international user base.

The funding will be used to build sales & customer success teams, accelerate product development & marketing and expand into new markets.

Mutlu commented: “Marvel is democratising design and empowering everyone to be involved in the process.  We are lowering the barrier to getting started in design and making it much easier for people to work collaboratively.”

Rory Stirling, partner at BGF Ventures, added: “Amazing things happen when technology is used to simplify creative processes and we believe Marvel has the ability to transform the way individuals and teams create great products on a global basis.

“This is exactly the type of ambition we like to back at BGF Ventures and we look forward to helping the team scale up a business that already has an impressive and loyal user base.”
