Merry Maids welcomes franchise couple following resale opportunity

Paul and Joanne Nicholson new owners of the domestic cleaning chain’s Teesside territory

Domestic cleaning franchise Merry Maids, a brand of national franchisor ServiceMaster Ltd, has overseen the successful resale of its Teeside site with husband-and-wife duo Paul and Joanne Nicholson (pictured) the new owners of its North East branch.

Having purchased the territory from previous owner Sue Riley who launched the Teeside site in 2003, the Nicholsons plan to capitalise upon the Merry Maids operation and  “signficantly increase” turnover within the next 12 months.

Joanne Nicholson plans to head up the territory whilst Paul Nicholson will continue to run his own business; plumbing, heating and property maintenance, alongside their new venture.

Launched in the UK in 1959, ServiceMaster Ltd operates three other franchise brands alongside Merry Maids including TruGreen, Furniture Medic, and ServiceMaster Clean, which all specialise in home cleaning services.

The chain, which boasted turnover of £55m for 2013, has franchise opportunities available for its Merry Maids arm across the UK starting at an initial fee of 16,560 + VAT.

Merry Maids’ new franchisee, Joanne Nicholson, said: “We are excited about the opportunity this new venture will bring us.

“We want to raise the profile of Merry Maids across Teesside and bring in and develop new staff. Having lived in Teesside all our lives, our local knowledge will help us to develop a successful business.”

ServiceMaster Ltd’s managing director, Alan Lewin (pictured centre), concluded:

“We are delighted that Paul and Joanne […] have hit the ground running. Operating in such a large area means their opportunity to grow and develop the business is great.”
