Minicabster announces takeover of rival taxi app Bounce
Part-acquisition will see the Bounce app and its user base integrated into new Minicabster app
Founded in 2011 by Brooke Pursey and David Buttress, Minicabster allows users to compare local taxi companies by star rating or price, and book and pay instantly.
Bounce, the concept of Young Gun Nicko Williamson, provided a similar service, allowing people to book the nearest Tfl licensed minicab for a fixed price, claiming to save 40% on the cost of a black cab.
The deal will see Minicabster take over a number of its rival’s clients, as well as the use of its app as it seeks to expand within the highly competitive minicab sector. Bounce users will now have access to Minicabster’s fleet of 10,000 minicabs nationwide.
As part of the news, Minicabster has revealed that it has integrated Bounce’s app into its own new app, which aims to make booking a taxi in the capital as easy as possible. Passengers are enabled to save addresses as titles on the start screen, choose what type of vehicle they’d like and what price they’d prefer.
Irshad Khan, business lead and head of technology at Minicabster, commented: “Running a tech business in the competitive minicab space has been a challenge over the last year, but we’re thrilled to be the first European cab tech company to buy a competitor’s assets in this way.
“It’s been a turbulent few years for the industry as a whole, with many disruptive new apps hitting the market, but we are always pushing for new ways in which we can take the lead within the minicab sector.
“I see more mergers and acquisitions taking place in the near future, as Minicabster continues to foster innovation in this fast-evolving industry.”
