Retail space marketplace Appear Here raises £1m

Online platform founded by 21-year old entrepreneur Ross Bailey

Online retail space booking platform Appear Here today announced the closure of a £1m funding round, led by a group of investment funds from the digital and property sectors.

Founded last year by 21-year-old entrepreneur Ross Bailey, Appear Here operates a booking platform for short-term retail space, connecting leading property companies and landlords to retail tenants.

Since launch it has added several well-known brands to its portfolio of customers including Google, Microsoft, American Apparel and Diageo and is the only online property booker serving leading property companies British Land, Legal & General and Capital & Regional.

The £1m investment was led by venture capital funds Howzat Partners, MMC Ventures and previous investors Forward Investment Partners and also included input from Meyer Bergman, Playfair Capital, Miroma Ventures and Spotify’s Marc Hazan.

The backing follows an early-stage investment round last December  and will be used to accelerate Appear Here’s UK-wide expansion to make more short-term retail space available on the site, as well as funding new hires on the firm’s technology team.

Appear Here is former Peter Jones Academy graduate Bailey’s second venture after running a pop-up shop on London’s Carnaby street, selling Diamond Jubilee memorabilia.

Sascha Hausmann, partner at Appear Here investor Howzat, commented: “We are always on the lookout for potential game-changers and that is what we have found in Appear Here – a company that is disrupting the commercial real-estate market and providing new revenue sources and marketing opportunities to landlords, retailers, brands and entrepreneurs.

“With thousands of brands and retailers already on its books, and an ever-increasing number of spaces available to hire, the potential for growth is massive.”
