‘Next Big Idea Contest’ offers UK FinTech start-ups chance to target North America

Competition will award winning businesses with three week working visit to Toronto and access to Canadian incubator DMZ

A new competition, the ‘Next Big Idea Contest’, is looking to give three early-stage UK financial technology (FinTech) start-ups the chance to attend a sponsored three-week working visit to Toronto.

Focused on helping new FinTech firms to target the financial sector in North America, the contest will provide the three winning businesses with accommodation and a three-week business incubation programme at Digital Media Zone (DMZ); Canada’s top-ranked incubator.

At the DMZ each start-up will receive a customised package of business development advice and mentorship, as well as meetings and networking with investors and partner companies.

The winners will also have the opportunity to explore Toronto – a city which is said to be one of the top start-up eco-systems in the world, responsible for more than $1bn in research and development annually.

Counsellor for the high commission of Canada in London, Aaron Rosland, commented:

“The Next Big Idea Contest wants to bring three of the UK’s most innovative FinTech companies to Toronto for […] the opportunity to expand their business to the North American market. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity.”
