Peter Jones CBE announces launch of trading for Tycoon in Schools 2016

Over 2,000 school children set to take part in the national enterprise initiative, with primary schools competing for the first time

Today marks the official start of trading for Tycoon in Schools, the national enterprise competition started by Peter Jones CBE, with over 2,000 school children set to take part across the UK.

This year the competition has been expanded to primary schools for the first time, which will see more than 100 teams of children as young as five taking their first steps into the world of entrepreneurship.

Backed by a loan of between £50 and £1,000, over 300 hand-selected teams will have from now until Friday 16 December to trade and grow their businesses, which include customised bath bombs, themed calendars and e-sports tournaments.

Launched in 2012, Tycoon in Schools is estimated to have grown by 300% over the last few years and created 1,250 new businesses, helping to foster a culture of enterprise and encourage the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

Jones commented: “Every year, I am hugely impressed by the innovative and creative business ideas we receive from students – it reinforces that we should never underestimate the ambition and potential of our young people.

“I am very excited to see these businesses come to fruition and wish all students participating across the country the very best of luck. Watch this space – we could have the next global business tycoon in the making!”
