Playstation and Creative England to launch gaming incubator and accelerator

GamesLab Campus to invest £50,000 in five gaming start-ups and developers to create “new experiences” for Sony's Playstation 3, 4 and Vita

Playstation is to team up with Creative England, a national agency which invests and supports creative industries, to launch an “exciting” incubator and accelerator programme, GamesLab Campus, designed to support the growth of  game development talent.

Unveiled by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Agostino Simionotta at the 2014 Develop Conference yesterday, GamesLab will invest a share of £250,000 into five gaming tech start-ups or games devleopers with the goal to create “new and innovative” entertainment  experiences for Sony’s Playstation 3 (PS3), 4 (PS4) and Playstation Vita (PS Vita).

Each of the businesses chosen for the accelerator will receive a package of mentoring, advice and access to PS3, PS4, and PS Vita development kits.

More information about the accelerator programme is expected to be announced shortly.

Creative England head of games and digital media, Jaspal Sohal, discussed the scheme:

“At Creative England we are always looking to […]open doors to help independent development (Indie) studios grow and achieve commercial success. It’s fantastic to have Playstation on board and together we’ve designed GamesLab Campus to be a complete investment and support package.

“Whether you’re a start-up or an experienced developer, we’re looking for exciting and innovative projects to invest in.”

Sony’s Simonetta added:

“We believe this to be a great partnership and an opportunity to illustrate our continuous support and commitment to the independent development community.”
