Tell us what your business does:

Raven is an innovative live-time event logging and incident management tool for the event industry. It allows safety and security professionals to get the right information to the right people at the right time. The app also allows users to respond to incidents with greater efficiency than ever before.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

From my experience and learning derived from my emergencies planning background where I have worked with major events, arenas and stadiums.

How did you know there was a market for it?

Through ongoing engagement with our existing clients and governing bodies such as the English Football League (EFL), National Arenas Association (NAA) and European Tour, I recognised the need for incident and event logging to be digitised and integrated.

Most venues still rely on pen and paper as a system for recording and managing incidents. With the threat level as high as it is, this is just no longer acceptable.

What were you doing before starting up?

I was previously a police officer based in emergencies and counter-terrorist planning.

Have you always wanted to run your own business?

Absolutely, my father has his own business and I knew that one day I wanted to follow in his footsteps to see what I could achieve.

How did you raise the money?

My business to date is self-funded.

Describe your business model and how you make money

Raven is a licence-based product with a minimum term of three years to allow the system to fully inform trends and use data analysis to further streamline our service effectively for our clients.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

We have found that our clients require varying levels of reporting functionality, which creates additional work and cost for our development team.

We are working towards a mechanism that will provide a robust and in-depth level of reporting for industry sectors, which will also allow for client flexibility.

What was your first big breakthrough?

Landing the Rugby World Cup as a client.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

If you have an idea you believe in, find good advisors you can trust, get a detailed and well thought out plan in place, and believe in your passion. With real hard work, determination and belief you can achieve success.

Where do you want to be in five years’ time?

I would like to position Raven as the global market leader in event control.
