Revive! managing director Llewellyn came across the concept of’ SMART’ repairs during a year spent in Canada. Llewellyn introduced the process to the UK in 1994 under the master franchise of Colourworks. At the time, Mullen (now operations director at Revive!) was a small business advisor at Natwest which is where the two entrepreneurs met with Mullen releasing the start-up capital Llewellyn to start Colourworks.
The duo worked together for four years and their natural progression allowed them to buyout the master franchise and build their very own. In July 2004, they pooled their skills, experience and know-how to create the vision of Revive!
Revive! is now known as one of the leading cosmetic vehicle repair brands in the UK, operating a national network of mobile repairers, servicing both the general public and large blue chip companies across the UK. Since inception, Revive! has seen swift growth on the back of its professional reputation within the dealership, insurance and fleet markets, and, not to mention, the general public.
Moving into franchising
So how did you move into franchising?
Llewellyn has always been passionate about franchising as a business model and has promoted ethical franchising for many years through Revive! and the bfa.
Where did the business open its first franchise?
Under the Colourworks branding, the first franchisee was Dave Baxendale who launched in Manchester in June 1998. He is now a very successful rranchisee with three vans.

There are over 30 million cars on the UK’s roads, and 50% of cars have damage to their bodywork or alloy wheels. The demand keeps on growing.

How do you divide the regions?
The territories are designed to allow for growth to an operation size of at least the vans with each territory covering a population of 250,000 people and about 60 dealers.

So do franchisees work from an office, or are they home-based? Is it part-time or full-time?
Franchisees are van-based and it’s a full-time role.

How much do franchisees pay and what are the ongoing franchise fees?
The initial franchise costs are £23,500 +VAT and franchisees pay a 10% royalty fee on sales.
Success and growth
How successful are some of the franchisees today?
We have some very successful franchisees in our network including Adam from Luton who started in 2009 and hit revenues of £514,000 in 2014, with eights van, an office and a wheel van.
We try to only look to recruit franchisees who commit to becoming a multi-van operation but the timing of when to add more vans can vary from franchisee to franchisee. It goes without saying that we cannot guarantee the growth of their operation as with all businesses their success depends largely upon their ambition, cash flow and suitability to the business.
