Seedcamp Week 2010

Entrepreneurs’ mentoring and funding competition gets underway

Some of the world’s most promising tech entrepreneurs have been impressing business advisors and investors from around the globe at the fourth annual Seedcamp Week.

The event, held at University College London, has seen 23 of the top start-up teams from 900 entries across 16 different countries battle it out to win both mentoring and funding from some of the world’s most admired business men and women.

Chief executive of Seedcamp, Reshma Sohoni, told Startups: “This year our ecosystem has really grown and expanded. So far it’s been fantastic and the quality of the teams, and the mentors, seems to get better and better.

“The reach of Seedcamp is enormous and there are so many opportunities for our 23 finalists to make great contacts and hopefully investment.”

Central to the ethos of Seedcamp is the notion of championing local heroes. Five of the finalists are UK-based companies, boasting an overriding theme of web-based products.

One entrepreneur looking for investment at Seedcamp is Nadim Saad, who founded the world’s first car finance comparison website,

He said: “Our feedback has been amazing and we’ve made some great contacts. I think Seedcamp is the best thing for start-ups that’s happening in Europe because you can get so much out of speaking to people who’ve done similar things.”
