Sefaira completes $10.8m Series A funding round

Biggest Series A investment in cleantech for over two years

London-based Sefaira, which provides cloud-based software to support environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient building design, has completed a $10.8m (£6.8m) Series A funding round, led by New York-based venture capital firm Braemar Energy Ventures.

The investment, which also included significant contributions from Netherlands-based Chrysalix SET and London-based Hermes GPE, is the largest Series A round to be completed in the UK’s cleantech space for more than two years. Sefaira was founded in 2009, and has since carved a lucrative niche through its cloud-based technology, which is used by architects, engineers and building owners to work out how to optimise the environmental and energy aspects of buildings they are designing and retro-fitting.  Its product was recognized as the Green Building Innovation of the Year at the EcoBuild 2011 awards. The company, which has offices in London and New York and operates globally, has recently secured its first strategic customer deals, and will use the funding to ramp up its R&D, support and engineering efforts. Beanstalk, the boutique corporate finance advisor, provided key advice to Sefaira during the funding round. The company’s co-founder Richard Baker, said: “Sefaira is creating a new and exciting market, with a unique approach and patented technology addressing a rapidly expanding sector. We were delighted to have helped deliver this notable result for the company.”
