At a time when consumers are more price conscious than ever, Kevin Flood and Mike Harty have launched a compelling offering. Dubbed the ‘Facebook of shopping’, Shopow is an online community where users can search for products, read and post reviews, interact and discover new products and, of course, shop.
Short for ‘shopping power’, Shopow enables users to compare prices from thousands of different retailers, as well finding out how others have rated different stores, to help people make well-informed buying decisions and secure the best value for money.
Flood and Harty, both in their early 20s, started the business straight out of university, securing £380,000 of angel investment to develop the site and a further £500,000 to fund the launch and marketing of the business. Shopow is expecting first-year turnover to surpass £3m and is already earning 50% of revenue from overseas. The founders were also named as Young Guns by Startups’ sister publication Growing Business earlier this year.
