Skype launches online networking community for small businesses

Free tool hopes to offer a range of contacts to small business owners

Skype has announced the launch of Skype in the workspace (SITW), a new online platform aimed at connecting small businesses with clients and customers.

Launched today, SITW provides a central platform for small business owners to network with clients and generate new sales leads.

Small businesses are invited to promote their company through the platform by creating a free online profile, which details the firm’s products or services.

Business owners can then offer live demonstration sessions of their business services to the online community and book appointments with clients and customers, which can be scheduled using a meeting notification service.

The platform, which offers customers the opportunity to share positive feedback of a business across the online network, was tested by 500 businesses in a six month beta trial prior to its launch.

With 280 million users connecting to Skype each month, the business platform hopes to open up a range of contacts to small businesses.

Ural Cebeci, head of SMB marketing at Skype commented: “We aim to connect millions of small businesses with Skype in the workspace and believe that by taking advantage of this shared network, businesses can develop the range of tools they need to grow, regardless of location or industry.

“From the designer in San Francisco looking to source textile suppliers in Thailand, to the London consultant connecting with clients in Milan, the possibilities are endless.”
