Skype launches online platform for small businesses and start-ups

Skype in the workspace aims to boost networking opportunities and generate new sales leads for business owners

Skype has announced the launch of Skype in the workspace (SITW), a new online platform for small businesses and start-ups.

Launched today, SITW enables small business owners to connect with clients, partners and customers around the globe from one central platform.

Users are invited to create a free profile to promote their company on the SITW platform, from which they can offer live demonstration sessions of their business services to the online community.

The platform, which offers customers the opportunity to share positive feedback of a business across the online network, was tested by 500 businesses in a six month beta trial prior to its launch.

With 280 million users connecting to Skype each month, the business platform hopes to open up contacts to small businesses by enabling users to book Skype appointments with clients and customers and schedule them using the meeting notification service.

Ural Cebeci, head of SMB marketing at Skype commented: “We aim to connect millions of small businesses with Skype in the workspace and believe that by taking advantage of this shared network, businesses can develop the range of tools they need to grow, regardless of location or industry.

“From the designer in San Francisco looking to source textile suppliers in Thailand, to the London consultant connecting with clients in Milan, the possibilities are endless.”
