Small and medium firms set to jump into the cloud
New study shows ever-growing popularity of hosted services
Almost 40% of small-to-medium sized firms will invest in cloud computing over the next three years, according to a new study from Microsoft.
The research, based on responses from new and growing firms in 16 countries, also found that, by 2013, the average small business will be using more than three cloud hosting services.
Around 43% of IT processes will be carried out in the cloud, while only 28% will be carried out on a company’s physical premises.
According to the Microsoft figures, the number of companies using cloud computing will go up by around a third between 2010 and 2013 – further illustrating the potential of hosted IT services.
Discussing the research, a Microsoft spokesperson said that “growth companies want a scalable environment that can meet their expanding needs, with an affordable, pay-as-you-go pricing model, that eliminates the need for over-investment in IT.”
