Sony Xperia XZ2 review
Sony’s most impressive phone of 2018 - but is it right for your small business?
Startups rating ★★★★★ ( out of 5)
The Xperia XZ2 is Sony’s premier smartphone, and their most popular model for small business owners and freelancers.
The Xperia XZ2 has an impressive 5.7-inch Full HD+ HDR display, a battery that lasts all day, and a top-notch Motion Eye camera – plus a price tag that’s a little friendlier than some of its top rivals.

What’s it like to use?
It’s fast, and we like phones that last – but it’s not quite an iPhone
Full HD+ display
The display is Full HD (1080 x 2160), which is great to look at, and more than you need for work – but it’s not quite as dazzling as Quad-HD OLED screens.
The plus in HD+ is just because the phone’s a little longer than most (with an aspect ratio of 18:9 rather than 16:9). That’s to make the phone just that bit longer than it is wide, so the 5.7-inch screen is more comfortable to hold.
That bit bigger
This phone is perfect if you like slightly larger phone bodies – for business use, they can be ideal. But just note that whereas some devices are half an inch longer, they can have full-screen designs, making them appear even smaller in the hand.
Speedy octa-core processor
But the XZ2 also runs on Qualcomm’s most powerful octa-core processor yet – the Snapdragon – and with 4GB Ram, there’ll be no slowing you down with your work, or play.
64GB is a great amount of space for a business mobile – and if you need that bit extra, you can get it thanks to a micro-SD card slot (now becoming extinct in smartphones).
How’s the battery?
Better than most iPhones, and lasts all day
With the Xperia XZ2, you won’t be a slave to your charger. It’ll give you about 21 hours of phone calls and 11 hours browsing the web. It also has a quickfire charge – in 15 minutes you’ll get just shy of four hours of call time and a little under two hours of normal use.
How about the camera?
Lets you film like a pro
You won’t get any dual rear facing cameras like with the Samsung S8 or the iPhone 7, but we don’t think you’ll notice a big difference here – the Xperia XZ2 photos are clear and detailed in almost every lighting.
Is it for me?
Yes, if you’re ready to ditch your iPhone
Sony has a well-earned reputation for delivering world-leading technology, and their latest release – the Xperia XZ2 – is their best smartphone to date, hands down.
It gets a big thumbs up for everything small business owners need to make their lives easier – speed, all-day charge and a decent screen size.
But if you’re not convinced, you can compare it with its rivals in our no-nonsense review of the Top 10 Business Mobile Phones, including the other Androids and leading iPhones.
Why does the Sony Xperia XZ2 make the Startups Top 10 mobiles? The best iPhones and Androids will just about beat this phone on bonus features like photo and call quality – but you’ll be paying a lot more for very little difference.
And for business use, this is absolutely one of the best phones out there.
