Tell us what your business does:

We specialise in placing experienced native Spanish speaking nannies with families who need childcare and want to raise their children in a bilingual environment.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

I spent 11 years working as a professional nanny and nursery teacher in Spain and London, and I hold two different childcare diplomas. I created the idea based on my knowledge and experience, I could see that a specialised nanny agency that provides a valuable cultural experience as well as care would be very popular in the UK market.

How did you know there was a market for it?

I started by researching the market, I called 10 different agencies that also offer Spanish-speaking nannies and this helped me get a good idea of the size of the market and who to target.

I found out that 5% of families that hired Spanish-speaking had a Spanish parent and 3% were English speaking. The main areas where these families live are Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Paddington and Notting Hill.

What were you doing before starting up?

I am still working as a full-time nanny for an American family based in the UK as I try to grow my start-up.

Have you always wanted to run your own business?

Although I had always wanted to, I never felt confident enough. Then I was told about the MBA program and, after joining it, I started to see how my dream was achievable and I launched my business.

How did you raise the money?

At the moment, I am putting my savings into the business. However I am part of an accelerator program and at the end of the program, I will pitch to win investment.

Describe your business model and how you make money:

We are going to charge a registration fee of £65 and then an annual commission fee to families for placement.

We will make sure our candidates meet all requirements, have a good level of spoken English, over two years of childcare experience, and have at least two written references, a First Aid certificate and CRB up-to-date.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

Taking the initial step and getting over my fears was the biggest obstacle. After this, it was creating a website. However, completing an MBA has helped me to make sense of things and overcome my fears.

What was your first big breakthrough?

Launching the platform!

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Just do it! Believe in yourself, get over your fears, and push yourself. Also, be ready to work hard and remember that in the end you’ll be rewarded!

Where do you want to be in five years’ time?

The largest nanny agency in the UK and Spain.
