The social network that provides a “one stop shop” for sports fans
Founders: Arron Sheperd and Andy Meikle
Launched: April 2013
A ‘one stop shop for sports fans’, London-based Sportlobster is a social network which uses technology tailored to your sports preferences to allow you to predict results, see live scores, write sports blogs, read sports news and share opinions with your peers. The network encourages interactivity by enabling users to link their accounts to their Facebook and Twitter profiles and provides a calendar feature to keep users up to date with conversations and information on their sporting interests.
It is the branchild of young entrepreneurs Arron Sheperd and Andy Meikle, who, as avid sports fans themselves, felt frustrated with having to visit multiple sites and several apps to get their ‘sporting fix’ and so decided to create a model that brings everything together.
Initially launched as a website and now available to download from the App Store, the tech start-up has scaled quickly, with $1.75m raised to date following a seed funding round in 2012 and recent backing from Luxembourg-based equity firm Wychwood Capital Partners, former-England striker, Michael Owen, and Formula 1 Red Bull driver Mark Webber.
After a successful 2013, Meikle and Sheperd have plans to launch other native apps and an Android version of their 4+ rated app.
