Star Wars casting company receives £462,000 from Pinewood Studios

London-based film technology start-up We Got POP has sourced extras for a number of blockbusters including Spectre and Everest

The start-up casting company used to book extras for the latest Star Wars movie; We Got POP, has secured £462,000 growth capital from film studio Pinewood Studios as it looks to expand across the UK and US.

A group of high-profile angel investors including film producer Richard Northcott and technology investor Richard Fearn also backed the round.

Based in London, We Got POP is a platform for extras castings and offers a “turn-key” solution by combining its portfolio of artists with casting and booking software and a back-office solution.

It has worked on castings for a number of blockbuster films including Spectre, Everest and Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (pictured).

We Got POP co-founder, Kate McLaughlin, said of the funding: “There is a growing appetite in the industry to employ technology to make the production process more efficient and flexible; and we have had a lot of interest in what we are doing.

“With the support of our investors, we are now in a great position to speed up the rolling out of new products for a large range of productions.”
