What’s great about starting a business in Aberdeen?

There are lots of food and drink businesses located in the North-East of Scotland, and thus there is a fabulous industry network, as well as a university support network, in addition to all the modern amenities of Aberdeen City.

What business support in the city have you used? How was it?

We have been supported by Aberdeenshire Council in finding manufacturing partners and other support matters, and even have won three industry awards by the Grampian Food Forum – the oldest and largest regional food industry network in Scotland.

Name the top three reasons to set up a business in Aberdeen:

Aberdeen is well connected by transport links, yet at the same time has the beauty of having wonderful beaches on one side, and the Grampian mountains in short driving distance on the other.

Where could Aberdeen be better / what does it need?

Aberdeen City is sometimes over-dominated by the oil & gas energy sector. It would be nice to see a greater industry mix, and especially an innovation centre for start-up businesses.

How easy has it been to access finance to grow?

Raising finance is key, and as a national and internationally orientated company, our fund-raising is on a national basis.

Where do you go to network in Aberdeen?

Key networking events include those by the Grampian Food Forum, the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, the University of Aberdeen, and the Robert Gordon University.

Where do you take a client for a business lunch/ meeting?

Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire have many wonderful restaurants, cafes and hotels, as well as some of the best golf courses in the country; thus there’s plenty of nice hospitality places.

Where’s great for a company night out?

The city centre as well as the beach boulevard is where to find the nightlife activities, and outside the city there are some wonderful country pubs and hotels to enjoy.
