What’s great about starting a business in Milton Keynes?
Being a curated marketplace, our team of “food explorers” spend much of their time out on the road discovering unique indie foods up and down the country so great transport links and road systems are essential. Also as a fast growing internet start-up with big plans we have to make sure we are based in a location that can supply the skills we need. London where we started out was great for the latter but an increasing challenge for road systems -Milton Keynes provides us with a great balance of both.
What business support in Milton Keynes have you used? How was it?
So far at Yumbles we’ve only made use of some local business networks to help us locate some great office space however there seems to be a keen tech community here that we hope to be able to get involved with and benefit from.
Name the top three reasons to set up a business in Milton Keynes:
- Convenient location
- Thriving tech community
- An abundance of extra curricular pursuits/ sports/ activities!
Milton Keynes is a vibrant, urban and modern city surrounded by beautiful English countryside and villages. From both a professional and personal perspective that provides a great balance.
Where could Milton Keynes be better / what does it need?
Milton Keynes is being touted as something of the new tech city and of course at Yumbles that’s something we’d be very keen to see flourish. The new Silicon Valley even?! We certainly know from experience how powerful and inspiring it is to work in proximity to, and network with, fellow internet entrepreneurs.
How easy has it been to access finance to grow?
We haven’t looked to or used any local finance support instead we’ve benefited from private investors excited by what we are doing.
Where do you go to network in Milton Keynes?
Having only recently relocated offices we’ve yet to hook into a regular resource but we have seen an array of networking events in the area particularly targeting start-ups and even attended one or two. There definitely seems to be a very active business community here, particularly for start-ups.

Where do you take a client for a business lunch/ meeting?
If we’re out to really impress then Paris House is our go-to; an incredible restaurant located within a large deer park. We’re also spoiled by some incredible pubs around the Milton Keynes area and the Alford Arms is a particular stand out, again offering memorable food in incredible countryside.
Where’s great for a company night out?
Of course food has to be at the centre of any credible team night out – if we can’t combine our socialising with a great local food festival (of which there are many in the area throughout the year) then a popular haunt of ours that’s a bit of fun is The Red Hot World Buffet. Need we say more!
