The importance and influence of social media, and using social media for business – really can’t be emphasised enough. With an average of 58 million tweets being sent per day and nearly 650 million active Twitter users, the twittersphere has the potential to help launch your business out of obscurity and onto the lips (and tweeting fingers) of your target market.

But how do you build up a Twitter following?

A good place to start is to make sure you’re following influential people in the start-up space. By following other entrepreneurs you’ll gain inspirational insights, see useful suggestions for other people to follow and in an ideal world they may even follow you back. A retweet from an entrepreneur with a big following or really engaged audience can do wonders for your business – for free.

So who should you follow?

We’re not the first publication to pull together a list of people to follow on Twitter and we certainly won’t be the last, but our up-to-date list contains a variety of entrepreneurs from famous names such as Sir Richard Branson to VCs such as Seedcamp co-founder Reshma Sohoni and brand new, exciting and eager tweeting businesses like Chosen Bun.

It’s a list of all the most influential entrepreneurs you should be following – right now.

We’ve replicated our ‘entrepreneurs you must follow’ list on Twitter which includes everyone in the feature and you can start following it immediately here. We’ve also created lists for each category (there’s a link to the individual lists on each relevant page), if you’re only interested in investors for instance.

To browse the whole list click next or select one of our tailored lists using the links above.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the list and are more than happy to incorporate popular additions. If you think we’re missing anyone crucial, please leave a comment or email us at hello@startups.co.uk.

In the meantime, happy following… (Oh, and make sure you’re following us, of course! @Startupstowers)
