Very simply what does you tech start-up do?

1ROOF matches people with appropriate professionals for their home.

Users enter the basic details of their job and the matching is done via software or for more complicated jobs, by the team themselves. Then options are sent back for you to contact. Safe in the knowledge that the professional is appropriate, available and insured.

Users can also benefit from the range of useful information and unique support services. Such instant estimating software, live advice and payment processing. Then feel safe as 1ROOF guarantees the work for up to 10 years.

Tell us why there is a need – what do you disrupt?

Finding suitable professionals for your home is difficult. The process can be expensive, lengthy and emotional. Whether looking for a cleaner, conveyancer or architect, various concerns come to mind. Where will I look? Who can I trust? How much should it cost? How long will it take? Finding the appropriate person takes a degree of time and knowledge which the average homeowner doesn’t have.

Others have attempted to address these problems but with limited success. The market remains fractured, dominated by antiquated directories, lead gen services and trade associations. These platforms do not take an individual’s personal circumstances such as budget and timescale into account. They only introduce client and service provider by charging subscriptions or lead fees. These  bias their actions and misalign them with the consumer.

We wanted to take a different approach, empowering the consumer by providing information and safety.

Are you funded?

In the last year 1ROOF has raised £150,000 SEIS investment.

What were you doing before starting?

Sells: Has successfully created businesses in entertainment and property, including a contracting company.

Mallows: Former head of product development at marketing agency HitMeUp.com and founder of inspiring events business ToMax Talks.

What’s the best thing about where you’re based?

We work in an office with all different types of young companies. Which is great as you can get feedback on your product and bounce ideas off each other. The office space is called Bathtub to Boardroom. It’s in Central London which is ideal for the team and for meetings.
