Tech Pitch: EcigWizard

With the trend for electronic cigarettes on the rise, the founders of the ecig start-up discuss being part of 'the next big thing'

Company name: EcigWizard (trading as Electronic Cigarettes LTD)
Founders: Aaron Taylor (29), Oliver Warburton (32), Ben Potter (23)
Background: IT
Based in: Peterborough

Very simply, what does your tech start-up do?

EcigWizard is one of the first ecigarette suppliers to provide high quality eliquid that is strictly tested for safe use and fully manufactured in the UK. We are also one of the first ecigarette manufacturers to open up a series of retail shops throughout the UK. We are currently at well over 30 shops, and growing.

Tell us why there’s a need – what do you disrupt?

The obvious answer to this is that we disrupt the tobacco industry as we currently provide a safer alternative to smoking. However we have achieved so much more than that. We have created a fully equipped manufacturing plant here so that all our eliquid can be created in the UK.

We also noticed that there was a huge vaping community that wanted a reliable company to supply a huge range of flavours for eliquid, something that was lacking in the UK at the time. Since then we have created hundreds of new flavours of eliquid for that community to try out.

Are you funded?

No, we are entirely self funded, started up on the back of a £500 joint investment. Three years later that £500 investment has turned into a multi-million pound business.

What were you doing before starting?

All three of our backgrounds have been in IT. From systems administration, to networking, to hosting, to web marketing…even game server hosting! We tried an ecig just over three years ago and had an inkling they would become the next big thing, which they have!

What the best thing about where you’re based?

Peterborough is close to all of our directors here so it made sense to set up our warehouse and business here. But whilst doing that we have found out that Peterborough is the fastest growing city in the UK and from this a lot of start-ups are moving in. We have been able to create an amazing team of 40 people (excluding resellers) that are all passionate about working with us to grow the business.
