Background: Drewry ran his own executive search firm for 12 years and Beau de Loménie spent 10 years in the Silicon Valley, coming to the UK to set up the tech platform for Ocado. They met at school in Paris, and met again in 2011 in London.

Very simply, what does your tech start-up do?

Emolument is a free salary comparison service. Users receive detailed and interactive remuneration reports vs. their work and university peers.

Tell us why there’s a need – what do you disrupt?

Lack of transparency in pay is taken for granted. When assessing their job, current or prospective, people know if they are making compromises on seniority, responsibility, excitement, etc. but rarely, if ever, do they truly know if they are making a financial compromise.

Knowing where they stand empowers employees to take better control of their careers.

What were you doing before starting?

Drewry: Before Emolument, I was running my own headhunting firm which alerted me to the lack of transparency both for employees and employers.

What’s the best thing about where you’re based?

Soho has a variety of businesses, buzz, other start-ups, great choice of restaurants and bars.
