Tech Pitch: Secret Sessions

Having worked with Ed Sheeran and Ben Howard, music content director Jordan-Wrench thinks her start-up is primed to disrupt the music industry

Company name: Secret Sessions
Founder: Harriet Jordan-Wrench (31)
Background:
Based in:
London

Very simply, what does your tech start-up do?

Secret Sessions connects artists with opportunities with brands. It allows music fans to play an active role in the careers of artists whilst discovering new music.

Tell us why there’s a need – what do you disrupt?

• The rise of digital has put the record industry in a state of flux
• Labels are signing fewer new acts
• Artists have to find new ways to make money
• Brands are striving to make genuine and long lasting connections with artists and consumers
• The digital space is over saturated and quality content gets lost among the mess
• The industry and its gatekeepers are stuck in their ways and reluctant to embrace new technologies

Are you funded?

No. I recently got through to the semi-finals of the VOOM 2016 competition where I was pitching for a share of £1m.

What were you doing before starting?

Jordan-Wrench: I have been at the forefront of the rise of online content for the past 10 years. I started and grew four YouTube channels and worked on many more with influencers in the space of music, fashion and beauty. I am a certified YouTube partner and have experience in content strategy and channel optimisation.

I’m an experienced music content director (and editor) and have worked with over 300 artists including Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks and Ben Howard & YouTube influencers such as Dan & Phil, Dave Days, Ebony Day and Cimorelli, connecting their audiences with forward thinking brands such as Jack Wills, Vodafone, Vauxhall – to name a few.

My videos have amassed over 50 million hits online and the four channels I started continue to grow. In 2015, I launched music platform Secret Sessions having run YouTube channel SecretSessionsTV for the past five years.

What’s the best thing about where you’re based?

London = the land of opportunity! It has everything you need to succeed at your finger tips, surrounded by inspiration and talent to help drive any start-up forward.

Based in East London, Secret Sessions benefits from creative surroundings inspired by music, fashion and art.
