Very simply, what does your tech start-up do?
Spacehop is an online marketplace for hiring home office space. We are the Airbnb for workspace.
We offer an affordable alternative to co-working spaces with desk prices from £5 a day and the flexibility to book the days you need.
The site has a variety of spaces on offer from modern chic apartments, to cozy living rooms, to quiet garden outbuildings; there really is something for everyone.
Tell us why there’s a need – what do you disrupt?
Our mission is to change the way people work. Current workspace options are expensive, inflexible and inefficient. With changing work patterns there is a need for greater flexibility and affordability.
Traditional offices and co working facilities are pricey and often involve a long term commitment. With Spacehop you can book by the day, with discounts available on longer term bookings. So whether you need a short term office solution or a more permanent workspace; we can cater to that.
The Spacehop workspaces come equipped with WiFi, provide free tea and coffee and a host of other amenities and represent a more productive environment than, say, your local Starbucks.
Finally, for those who work in their own home, and find it difficult to switch into ‘work mode’ separation of the home/work environment is often the key to success.
Getting out of the house is the first step and Spacehop gives you a variety of options in close proximity that have been tailored to help provide you with a super comfortable and productive day.
Are you funded?
Yes, we crowdfunded earlier this year. We raised £60,890 via equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube – 121% above target.
What were you doing before starting?
Beatty, a medical doctor at the time, moved to London and was working long hours to afford an apartment he spent little time in. Following a conversation with a few co-workers, Beatty found that they were equally frustrated by the hefty prices they were paying for a hot-desk each month and the idea for Spacehop was born.
What’s the best thing about where you’re based?
London is an inspiring place to start a business. There is always something going on and being in a hub with lots of innovative companies and people helps you stay focused!
