After witnessing the “amazing nightlife knowledge” of a New York hotel concierge, founders Nick Telson and Andrew Webster spotted a gap in the UK market. Online search platform DesignMyNight helps city dwellers discover and plan tailored nights out for any budget; solving that age-old problem of spending hours searching the web for the perfect birthday or drinks venue. Currently available across five cities and free to users, the site charges a commission on any bookings made via the site.

Frugl Startups Cup card

The “London events app for those on a budget”, Frugl has entered the very competitive events listing sector with a clear USP – all of its event listings are under £10 or free – allowing its users to “do more and spend less”. Set up by Suzanne Noble, the free (of course) app aims to take the hassle out of finding fun and free things to do across the Capital, whilst driving revenue from event holders by offering features that will benefit them and draw more people to their event.

Started as a blog written in University by co-founder Pascale Barget, TwentySomethingLondon stemmed from a desire to give small, independent businesses the exposure they deserve. After partnering with co-founder John-Michael Sookias, the site was launched in 2012 and it has since grown to become ‘the’ staple guide for young Londoners keen to discover great events and places around the Capital. Free for users, the site is monetised through advertising and affiliate partnerships as well as running its own events.
