Tell us what your business does We offer a comprehensive service for anybody wishing to purchase a property. Coming from a property background, we have a good knowledge of the profession so we can negotiate with estate agents to secure property at a lower price than our clients might be able to do on their own. Our service continues throughout the transaction by liaising with solicitors, surveyors and removal companies in order to make the moving process as smooth as possible for our customer.

Where did the idea for your business come from? While I was working as an estate agent, I was always working on behalf of the seller. I realised there was a lack of services available to work exclusively for the buyer. It was then I decided to form the consultancy.

How did you know there was a market for it? I attended some networking meetings and the positive reaction I had from successful business owners convinced me I had an idea which could work well if marketed correctly. By offering clients contact telephone numbers so they can call day/night or weekends, we offer the personal touch which I think is important in any business/client relationship.

Have you always wanted to run your own business? The idea of working for myself has always been attractive, but it was difficult trying to find a fresh concept. It’s very liberating being responsible for myself and not putting profits into others pockets.

What planning did you do before you started up? Other business owners gave me good advice on marketing – which books to read and the best network meetings to attend. I knew if I could work with four or five clients each month, the business would be able to survive. So far, I have been fortunate enough to exceed those numbers.

How did you raise the money? By working from home and using a free website service that looks reasonable, I have been able to keep costs down to a minimum. The service does not require office premises which helps financial matters.

How have you promoted your business? Network meetings and word of mouth – plus forcing business cards on anybody who will take one.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs? Believe you can do it and keep trying. If one idea doesn’t work out then the next one just might – but don’t lose heart.
