Run by and investment promoters Worth Capital, The Start-Up Series is the largest monthly seed funding competition in the UK, awarding one start-up per month £150,000 funding from a Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS).

Investment criteria:

The competition seeks entries from early-stage consumer businesses which are creating new products or services, or innovating new ways to buy them.

There are several criteria that start-ups must meet to be eligible to apply:

  • The business must be UK-based and its owner a UK resident no younger than 18 years old.
  • The company must have been trading for fewer than 21 months.
  • The business must have fewer than 25 employees.
  • To qualify for SEIS funding, the business must have less than £200,000 in gross assets.

Since the first round of the competition in October 2016, The Start-Up Series has publicly announced five winners, who have each received £150,000 equity seed funding.

These businesses are: property rental management platform RentalStep; vegetarian hot dog brand Not Dogs; innovative baby food processer Nuripod; refreshing non-alcoholic drinks brand Outfox; and the online marketplace for leftover building materials, Builders Bay.
