Using an intelligent algorithm, the site’s ‘recommendation engine’ builds a bespoke profile of the person you’re buying for, based on their style, interests and social data and maps this against a library of gifts to eliminate the somewhat tiresome browsing process for the consumer.

Created for the ‘time-poor’ shopper, if you select one of the suggested gifts, you’ll be directed to the linked e-commerce retailer, (ThePresent.Co charges the merchant a commission for any sales) and then they deliver your gift automatically – they’ll even wrap it too!

At just 25, founder David Yalland is no stranger to business or tech, having started his first company in his late teens after developing a burning interest in whether technology can replicate human instinct. Putting this theory to the test once again – ThePresent.Co seems to have struck a chord with shoppers – as in just a matter of weeks since launch, the site has had over 600 sign-ups and 6,000 unique visitors.

With £1.5m of backing from private tech investors, and a top team backed by former chairman of Hambros Bank Rupert Hambro, venture capitalist Charlotte-Anne Swerling, serial entrepreneur Dominic Perks and David Yalland, formerly of LivingSocial – this exciting start-up has serious potential to revolutionise the way we shop.
