Unsure where to launch your business? These are the best and worst cities for download speeds

A new report from Which? and Open Signal has revealed the top areas with the fastest average 4G speeds, and London isn't one of them...

If you’re starting a business and want to find the best location to launch your start-up then new research from Which? and OpenSignal will likely be of interest.

The report, released today, highlights the best and worst UK cities for 4G download speeds and 4G mobile phone signals using analysis of over 500 million data readings.

Despite London’s reputation as a burgeoning technology hub, the capital didn’t rank highly in the report with 4G download speeds – an important factor for entrepreneurs that work remotely – of 20.5mbps; placing it 16th in the index.

On the flip side, the fastest mobile downloads speeds were found to be in the Midlands with Stoke on Trent ranked in first place with speeds of 26.6mbps, followed by Coventry in second place with speeds of 24.8mbps.

The worst cities for 4G download speeds were reported to be Cardiff (17.7mbps) and Brighton (17.6mbps).

For 4G phone signals, Middlesborough came out top with average 4G availability of 82.7%, followed by Sheffield (79.3%) while those in Bournemouth were found to have the least chance of getting a 4G phone signal; offering speeds of 67.5%.
