Ticket marketplace Seatwave acquires US concert listing and booking app Timbre

Purchase to enable ticket platform to expand into live mobile music discovery

UK online ticket marketplace Seatwave Group, featured in the Startups 100 2010, has announced the acquisition of early-stage US gig app Timbre from Boston-based agency Intrepid Pursuits; a move intended to help it expand into live music discovery.

Founded in 2012, Timbre enables music fans to discover, listen to and buy tickets for live music events and claims to boast the UK’s largest live music database with an average of 18,000 gigs listed at any one time.

Its purchase by Seatwave, a booking platform which offers tickets to live music, sport and theatre events across Europe, sees the re-launch of the app in iOS offering users the ability to buy tickets directly from venues and primary ticket sellers, as well as tickets to sold-out gigs via Seatwave.

Seatwave Group CEO, Ajay Chowdhury, said: “With Timbre we want to help music fans to go to more gigs and create more live music memories.

“The Timbre app offers the whole package from browsing gigs, to playing tracks and purchasing tickets from multiple sources. By using Timbre, fans will have the UK’s most comprehensive live music listings at their fingertips, removing the hassle from planning a night out.

“This the first of a wave of new mobile products that we plan to launch.”
