Startups reveals the most exciting businesses to launch this year
With news last week that a record-breaking 500,000 start-ups have launched this year – competition for our index of the 20 best businesses of 2013 was stiffer than ever.
It’s an exciting time to be a fledging business, not only are you clearly not alone but there’s an infectious buzz around the start-up world at the moment – and with the government displaying a continued commitment to entrepreneurship (with schemes like Startup Loans and Small Business Saturday), there’s more support available than ever.
And it’s an equally exciting time for publications like us. Unearthing talent and spotting ‘the next big thing’ is one of the most enthralling parts of working in the start-up scene, and this year we’ve been spoilt for choice.
Scouring the nation for the early-stage companies we believe have the potential to become big businesses next year and beyond, we’ve discovered some real gems and we can’t wait to share them with you.
With futuristic technology playing an increasingly big part in business, it’s no surprise that we’ve got a large number of digital companies in the list, from location analytics to 3D web design and gamification but we’ve also got a socially-minded product for grandparents and a ‘first of its kind’ burger delivery service.
There’s no golden formula for what makes a good business but looking at the best examples of what’s out there at the moment is as good a place as any to start.
In many ways, there’s never been a better time to start a business, so please, read the list and get inspired – who knows, in 2014 we could be covering you!
