12 days of start-ups: Laundrapp
The on-demand service that collects, cleans and delivers your laundry right to your door
Founder: Edward Relf
Launched: January 2015
It wasn’t going to be long before someone disrupted the UK’s lagging laundry industry and London-based start-up Laundrapp has done just that with an on-demand operation that brings its services right to your door.
Launched by Edward Relf in January 2015, the iOS and Android platform enables users to have their dirty clothes or linen collected, cleaned and returned for as little as £2.
The last year has seen Laundrapp expand its services to over 25 UK cities including London, Edinburgh and Birmingham and enhance its offering with the addition of a host of new features. Consumers are now able to take advantage of a shoe repair, polish and cleaning service and an e-commerce platform selling everything from shoe horns to suit bags.
Customer satisfaction is key, and as well as reviewing in-app customer feedback daily, CEO Relf claims to do regular shifts as a delivery agent, gaining insights to fuel the ongoing development of the business.
Earlier in the year, Laundrapp scooped a £4m investment from ICAP founder Michael Spencer and Sports Direct chief executive Jeff Blue to support its rapid nationwide expansion. Currently doubling in size every three months, this disruptive platform continues to thrive and innovate – and while the focus remains on consolidating its market presence in the UK, it won’t be long before we see it tackling the world’s dirty laundry.
