Travel guide platform Pearlshare lands £1m in funding

Company will use finance to invest in product development, content creation and commercialisation

Pearlshare, a mobile and online platform for travel guides, has closed £1m in seed funding from a number of leading European angel investors.

Founded in 2014, Pearlshare enables travel experts to create guides based on their favourite travel resources, which can then be shared with social followers, friends, house guests, rental customers or hotel clients.

The business claims its user base has grown by more than 50% month-on-month this year, with its Pearlshare Ambassador programme recruiting travel writers, bloggers and celebrities to create and distribute their own guides.

The funding will help support product development, accelerate content creation and fuel growth as it seeks to capitalise on the $13bn travel information market.

James O’Day, co-founder of Pearlshare, said: “Over the past two years Pearlshare has built a scalable, low-cost platform for creating and sharing personalised travel guides. We are just starting our commercialisation efforts and we already have a number of business development deals in the pipeline. Watch this space!”

Ken Pratt, Pearlshare’s new content & partnerships director, added: “We are going to put the trusted travel expert back into the picture, on a scalable basis, and offer something no one else can match.”
