Tyrrells Crisps goes down under with purchase of Yarra Valley Snack Foods

Premium crisp brand will use acquisition to move production to Australia and "set the scene for extraordinary growth" globally

UK crisp brand Tyrrells Crisps has acquired Melbourne-based snacks business Yarra Valley Snack Foods, in a move which will see the company relocate production to Australia.

The deal comes 15 months after Tyrrells launched its products in Australia and is said to “set the scene for extraordinary growth plans” globally.

Established in 2002, Tyrrells specialises in hand-cooked potato crisps, vegetable crisps, crinkle cut crisps and premium popcorn; ‘Poshcorn’. The company, which employs over 140 staff, now has a presence in 37 countries and hit revenues of over £40m last year.

It plans to use its purchase of Yarra Valley – a manufacturer of natural, organic and gluten-free snacks – to “develop a new generation of English crisp connoisseurs down under” and will also provide a base to develop opportunities in Asia.

Tyrrells CEO, David Milner, commented;“This acquisition demonstrates that we are serious about international expansion for the Tyrrells brand. Our hand-cooked crisps have been extremely well received in Australia, where consumers value well-made food with provenance.

“From working with family farms through to sourcing the best tasting, natural ingredients, we’re delighted to be expanding in a market famous for it’s food manufacturing credentials”.
