University of Sheffield spin-out company set for national expansion following investment
Environmental consultancy Ecus secures investment from Finance Yorkshire
Sheffield-based environmental consultancy Ecus has signed an equity deal for an undisclosed sum with Finance Yorkshire.
Developed by the Joint European Resources for Micro to medium Enterprises (JEREMIE), Finance Yorkshire seeks to invest in small and medium-sized businesses based in or moving to areas within Yorkshire.
Following the investment, the University of Sheffield spin-out is looking to expand nationally, creating five new regional offices, as well as recruiting new staff members for the Sheffield base, which currently employs 20.
With Ecus’ turnover currently at £1.5m the firm, which offers a range of services including guiding clients through Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and providing environmental management services, is projecting a turnover of £5m in five years’ time.
Ecus’ chairman Dr Peter Skipworth commented: “Ecus responded to the downturn in construction through diversifying into growth markets such as wind energy, growing our business within the public sector and developing our Environmental Impact Assessment services.
“The Board believes that now is the time to look to the future and invest to significantly grow the business.”
