Businesses that use commercial vehicles now contribute an estimated £120bn to the UK economy, according to research from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, in partnership with the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR).

The analysis of data from 2009 to 2015 found that the number of registered vans for business in the UK has increased by 400% since 2009, with a 17.5% increase in self-employment over the same period.

In light of its findings, Volkswagen has partnered with Startup Direct to launch two mobile offices experiences in the back of its new Transporter vans.

The hot desk initiative is intended to help small businesses and entrepreneurs work on the go.

Carl zu Dohna, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, commented: “We admire the entrepreneurial minds of those in the UK who have continued to take risks and challenged traditional business industries in establishing exciting and forward-thinking new start-ups that use our vehicles.

“We know office space can often be at a premium; by working with Startup Direct we intend to offer individuals and businesses unique working spaces to inspire them.”
