West Midlands circus start-up crowned Intuit’s local business “hero”
'Small Business Big Success' competition winner CircusMASH has won a £10,000 cash prize, major advertising at Aston Villa FC, and mentoring
CircusMASH, a Birmingham-based start-up which specialises in circus training and performance, has been named the winner of Intuit QuickBooks’ Small Business Big Success competition and awarded a £20,000 prize package.
Running for its second year, the competition seeks to identify “local business heroes” in the West Midlands area to enable one company to take their business to the next stage of growth.
Following “hundreds of entries”, the judges – including Aston Villa FC chief commercial officer Charlie Wijeratna, and Birmingham Post editor Graeme Brown – named circus education and performance organisation CircusMash the overall winner.
CircusMASH has been awarded a £10,000 cash prize, LED advertising at Villa Park on Saturday 23 April, a full page editorial in the Birmingham Post, mentoring from business experts, and a 12 month Quickbooks subscription.
On its win, CircusMASH co-founder, Zaq Andel, commented:
“Having our achievements formally recognised in this way gives purpose to our work, as shifting people’s perception about circus arts can be something of an upward struggle. We’re delighted that our passion for our business came through and are feeling on top of the world!
“We will be using the prize package to support the development of our new circus school, investing the prize money in new equipment and our premises to help us create a state of the art facility.”
