Winner of TechCrunch London Startup Battlefield revealed

Data platform Crate.IO takes home Disrupt Cup and £30,000 of funding

A start-up which sets up Big Data back-end servers has been announced as the winner of the 2014 TechCrunch Startup Battlefield competition following two days of “intense” pitching at the inaugural London Disrupt event.

Crate.IO beat finalists Disease Diagnostic Group, Oscult by Oscadi, and PhotoMath by MicroBlink to win the Disrupt Cup after presenting the idea to the final judging panel of leading tech entrepreneurs and investors, including Brent Hoberman of PROfounders Capital, Mat Braddy of Just Eat, and Sonali De Rycker of Accel Partners.

As part of the prize, the database cluster specialist was also awarded £30,000 to go towards development of the business.

Disease Diagnostic group took runner-up position for its Rapid Assessment of Malaria (RAM) device; a portable, inexpensive device which helps to diagnose malaria.
