Yorkshire Meatball Co. lands £130,000 from the crowd

Startups Awards-winning restaurant chain will use funds to support nationwide franchise roll-out...

The Yorkshire Meatball Co (YMCO), a Harrogate and York-based restaurant specialising in all things meatball, has raised more than £130,000 on equity-based crowdfunding site Crowdcube.

In total, 237 investors took part in the round – to overfund its initial £100,000 target – with 15.12% equity offered. The largest single sum was £10,000.

Founded by father and son team David and Gareth Atkinson, Startups 100-featured YMCO offers a range of meat, fish and veggie balls, as well as craft beer from its two locations.

The company, which took home the title of Restaurant of the Year at the 2014 Startups Awards, will use the funds to add an external dining area, beer cellar and bottle shop to its Harrogate site.

The crowd investment will also support the launch of franchised restaurants across the UK, and the roll-out of branded products into major supermarkets.
