Young entrepreneurs: Jenk Oz, iCoolKid
The youngest founder in our index, 11 year-old Oz runs an innovative children's digital platform - balancing acting, singing and dancing on the side
Name: Jenk Oz
Company: iCoolKid Ltd.
Jenk Oz is without doubt an inspiring young entrepreneur.
Aged 11 and founder of a successful UK start-up business, Oz – with the help of his parents – has built a digital realm for ‘cool' kids between the ages of eight to 15.
Inspired by an idea that came to him while presenting a show and tell assembly aged eight, Oz's start-up, the aptly-named iCoolKid, is a children's entertainment platform featuring ‘cool' content such as articles and interviews to bring all the latest trends and news to young people.
Launched in beta last year with full launch planned for this month, Oz has already interviewed (yes, really!) the likes of Idris Elba, Gemma Arterton and David Haye for the platform and has five full-time employees supporting him in developing out the site.
With more than 1,500 ‘cool' pieces of content published on the platform to date, Oz says it can be difficult to find time to juggle iCoolKid with his studies and extra-curricular activities.
A keen singer, actor, and dancer, he tells Startups that he wants to strike the right balance between time spent on iCoolKid and “continuing to follow his passion in dramatic arts”.
So, what do the next five to 10 years hold for Oz and iCoolKid?
Over the next year, the young business prodigy expects for iCoolKid to turn a profit and has said that he hopes his experience of “learning about business from a very young age will put me in good standing later in life”.
And the best part of running a business at the jaw-dropping age of 11? “That my friends and family are all so involved in the project alongside me.”
