Last-minute events app YPlan acquired by Time Out Group

London-based events discovery and booking platform will now have access to a global audience of approximately 137 million

YPlan, the London-based events discovery and booking platform that took top prize at the Startups Awards 2013, has been acquired by the Time Out Group.

Founded in 2012 by Young Guns Rytis Vitkauskas and Viktoras Jucikas, YPlan – which took second place in the 2014 Startups 100 – allows users to browse and book last-minute events on their smartphones at a discounted price.

The start-up has received backing from a number of high profile individuals since launch including Ashton Kutcher, Pharrell Williams and Stephen Fry and was one of our biggest investments of 2014.

The deal will see YPlan gain access to Time Out’s enormous global audience of an estimated 137 million people, enabling them to discover, book and share local events.

YPlan’s founders commented: “Today is an exciting day for YPlan as we become part of Time Out, a global media and entertainment company. Both companies are an excellent fit.

“For us as founders, the acquisition is a natural continuation of our vision for YPlan: to enable people to discover and do amazing things, whether in their beloved home cities or while travelling. We’re both very proud to join with our team such an iconic brand and to be part of Time Out’s next chapter.”

Julio Bruno, chief executive of Time Out Group, added: “We look forward to welcoming the highly skilled YPlan employees to the Time Out team. Together we will be stronger than ever to bring our customers the capabilities to make the most of the city and to make Time Out an even better place to discover, book and share.”
