The world’s first mobile-only events booking app
Founders: Rytis Vitkauskas and Viktoras Jucikas
Launched: November 2012
On an average night, only one in two seats are sold for ticketed events. People tend not to visit the theatre, go to gigs or attend concerts on a whim. YPlan aims to change that by making it possible for people to book tickets on their mobile phones in just a couple of taps.
The company is in its earliest stages, having only launched in November 2012. Despite that, it already has 14 full-time employees and has raised an impressive $1.7m seed round funding from the likes of Wellington Partners and Octopus Investments (which previously backed start-ups including snacks-to-the-office service Graze and property portal Zoopla), along with several angel investors and advisers including co-founder of Lastminute.com Brent Hoberman, and Andy Phillipps, the founder of Bookings.com.
Revenue will be generated by taking commission from the event partner for every purchase made through the app. Time-starved Londoners, the business’ target market, may soon be much more likely to be more spontaneous, and adventurous, in venturing out of an evening.
