Business description: InsureandGo was the first to offer increasingly web-savvy consumers an alternative for travel insurance. As more travellers ditched the package holiday, InsureandGo offered them a bespoke sales system that asked just three questions before offering a highly competitive quote. Launched in 2000, it now has a turnover of more than £49m and a customer base of two million.

Judges’ comments: InsureandGo has posted spectacular growth over the two years to December 2006, with revenue rising from £21 million to £40 million. Profit more than doubled over the same time period to more than £2 million despite additional investment in infrastructure with staff levels rising to nearly 300 people.

The judges were particularly impressed by the value of the insurance products offered by InsurandGo, the ease of use of the website, and the quality of the insurance cover provided. InsureandGo was an early entrant into the online insurance market, and now covers more than two million customers.
